Detailed Itinerary

Your first dive with the sharks is along a magnificent wall where the sharks swim calmly along with the divers in a non-feeding environment. Your second dive is on a large sand patch where the group kneels down in a semi-circle and watches our Divemaster feed the sharks off of a long pole. Dozens of 5-6 foot Caribbean Reef sharks swim amongst everyone and come within touching distance of all of the divers (although no touching is allowed!). A video and photos are taken of each dive, and are available to watch and purchase once back at the dive shop. High quality digital prints are also available for purchase. This could quite possibly be the most exciting dives you will ever do. Shark Adventure 2-Tank Dive Trip

First Dive

Your first dive is a “Free Swim” with the sharks on a magnificent wall. The sharks will follow you throughout the dive because we are close to our feeding site and they know the dinner bell will ring soon. However, no bait is exposed on this dive. This keeps the sharks curious and creates a very natural encounter for divers – just as you would encounter a shark in the wild.

Second Dive

Your second dive is a shark feeding dive. Unlike ordinary dives – you will spend this dive kneeling on the sand bottom. Divers form a semicircle in front of our professional shark feeder who will place a bait box. Your feeder utilizes this bait box and a pole spear to control the release of food which influences the sharks behavior. While novice shark divers may not notice it – during the shark feeding dives your feeder tries to keep the sharks in a “polite” feeding posture. However be warned – the sharks will come close – very close – but they are more interested in the bait than you!
A video and photos are taken of each dive, and are available to watch and purchase once back at the dive shop. High quality digital prints are also available for purchase at the Fin Photo Center or online following your trip. All prices are correct as of the revision date listed at the bottom of this page. Shark Specialty Course Outline

It’s a well-known fact that the world’s shark population is dwindling rapidly. This decline is due to the shark’s one and only predator…man. Whether it is a lack of knowledge about shark behavior in general or over zealous fishermen, sharks are indeed in trouble. The “Dark Ages” of Shark knowledge are now part of your past when you join Stuart Cove’s Shark Awareness Course. The simple goal of this course is to introduce you to the shark. Through an academic program presented by a multi-media presentation, you will learn how to identify different types of sharks, understand some of their behaviors, and learn why this animal is so important to the overall oceanic ecosystems. The course will also teach you proper behavior for diving with sharks and will finish with you completing two shark dives – a free swim with sharks and a shark feeding dive. Upon completion of the academic and open water sections you will be awarded a specialty certification. Included in the course fee are the academic presentations, our 2-tank Shark Adventure, certification fees, patch, and certificate.

Must be a Certified Diver. Academic session (either at home or lecture with an instructor) MUST be completed prior to participating in the dives in order to receive credit for the specialty course.

Since I began my career in diving over 20 years ago, I first observed and then interacted with the shark population around the island. Those early experiences paved the way for our participation in Hollywood blockbusters such as “Never Say Never Again” and “Jaws IV: The Revenge” where I worked as the films “Shark Wrangler”. The outgrowth of those experiences led to the development of our Shark Adventure™ dives which we offer regularly. Let’s go diving soon…. with the sharks! -Stuart Cove

Your “Shark Buddy” is an experienced shark feeder at Stuart Cove’s and a scuba instructor. For the next two days – you will live in your buddies shoes as a shark feeder. The morning begins with a behind the scenes tour of Stuart Cove’s facility. Then it’s off to the classroom where you will take the Shark Awareness Specialty Course. This course will give you the basic knowledge you should know about sharks including how to identify certain species, how to read behaviors such as aggressive and polite feeding, and basic anatomy. The morning course finishes with a detailed briefing of the Stuart Cove Shark Adventure™ dives. During this briefing you will be given numerous observation assignments for the afternoon dive. Once the class is completed its off to the dive boat where you will participate (as a guest) in the Shark Adventure™ dives. On this trip you will be performing your observation assignments. These two dives also complete your Shark Awareness specialty course. During the two dives you will observe both natural and feeding behaviors of the Caribbean Reef sharks. You will be suited up in chainmail positioned next to your “Shark Buddy”. Your “Shark Buddy” will now show you his/her point of view. Near the end of the feed dive, your “Shark Buddy” will turn the spear and bait box over to you, for the last few pieces of bait.
