The first underwater film, "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea", a silent picture, was shot in Nassau in 1915. Since then, producers have been returning to Nassau over and over again due to it's accessibility to the U.S. mainland, first world amenities, cost effectiveness, and non-unionized production labor. As a result, Nassau has become known as the "Underwater Film Capital" of the world.
The diving conditions rival or exceed those found anywhere else in the world. The Bahamas has one of the most diverse underwater habitats to be found. Beautiful shallow reefs teaming with marine life are contrasted with wall that plummet to depth of 6,000 feet. The shallow Bahamas Banks ensure a bountiful fish population. Our waters are famous for their swimming pool-like clarity and consistent conditions. We are also the only destination in the world that can guarantee sharks.
