Nassau, Bahamas: Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas is Proud to have Hosted Multiple World Diving Records Concluding on March 3rd, 2016
Already well-known worldwide as “the” premier destination for shark encounters, underwater events and productions, Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas has announced that two new world records have been established:
- Ms. Reem Aleidan set the Longest Underwater Dive with Sharks by a Woman (5 hours)
- Mr. Mubarak Abuhaimad set the Longest Underwater Dive With Sharks by a Man (7 hours 49 min)
Both scuba divers from Kuwaiti have set two new global dive records in an attempt to raise awareness for women’s rights and the plight of Arab women in the Middle East. Ms. Reem comments “being a woman in a male-dominated industry is a challenge, being a woman in the Middle East and wanting to teach diving is even more challenging. I am hoping by holding this event in the Western world we can bring media attention to the plight of women like me in the Middle East and any other countries around the world where women are repressed and not allowed to express themselves like men can in many activities, like scuba diving.”
She continues, “The calm peaceful waters of Nassau, Bahamas provided the perfect setting for the event, as I had originally planned to break this record in Egypt. However, working with my friend and Team Leader Alharith Alateeqi, we moved the venue to The Bahamas, specifically, to his friend, Stuart Cove and his location in Nassau. The warm waters of the Bahamas are close to the USA, and served the event well.”
The rest of her team includes Coaches Mark McCrum, Co-Participant Mr. Mubarak Abuhaimad and Nasser Bader (of Royal Marine Dive Center), Fitness and Nutrition Specialist Dr. Yaqoub Alenizi and PR manager Mr. Musaed Almutairi.
Stuart Cove states that this event will be like no other: “We are pleased to have hosted the team and broken two global diving industry records. It’s our pleasure to be a part of this great effort and we congratulate the team on their accomplishment.”
Team Leader Alharith Alateeqi (Al) offered a thanks to the event’s sponsors, aside from Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas, and Stuart himself, other sponsors included Glam Cosmetics, a Kuwait-based company and distributor for Makeup Revolution; Shark Armour of San Diego, CA; WATERPROOF Diving International of Sweden; RAID of Australia; The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Ltd. (BTC); Sandy Port Resort and Aitkin Sign Shop both of Nassau.
According to Stuart Cove, the event brought many firsts to the diving industry, including setting the two shark diving records and the events live worldwide broadcast using a combination of new technologies that William Cline engineered. The broadcasts allowed us to transmit live video and audio feeds of the participants from under 25’ at our famous Shark Arena dive site, located 1.5 miles (2.4 km) off shore.”
Additionally, the Diver’s Alert Network (DAN) is provided invaluable medical advice for the entire process, and especially Dr. Jim Chimiak for his ongoing medical advice.
Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas is one of the largest scuba diving and watersports operations in the Caribbean. With a fleet of 20-plus boats and a staff of almost 200, the Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas team is proud to be a part of this exciting event and the opportunity to promote safe scuba diving and shark interactions worldwide.
